THE BLOG: Melancholic Magpie, the lovebird of the attainable and the aspirational, recently hatched in a feather-lined abode in Dallas, TX. Inspired by the authoritative forces of the more established birds, such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, Melancholic Magpie is dedicated to thorough research, witty writing, and individual style. With any luck, this hatchling will help to modernize and refine the escapist content of the classic women’s magazine. Melancholic Magpie aims to make each entry smarter, more observant, and better curated than your average sartorial splay.

THE GIRL: Twyla was born and raised right here in Dallas, TX. At the ripe age of five, she was admitted to the institution of Hockaday, where she would remain in academic lockdown until she graduated in a white dress and floppy hat 14 years later. A not-so-closeted-Victorian, Twyla continued her same-sex education at Barnard College, Columbia University, where her namesake (Twyla Tharp) also attended. During her time in New York City, Twyla interned at every company that struck her fancy. Her favorite, and most formative experiences were at College Fashionista, Christie’s Fine Art Auctions, and Harper’s Bazaar. In May 2014, Twyla graduated from Barnard with a B.A. in Art History with a focus on 18th-century decorative arts. Twyla has since moved back to Dallas, and started Melancholic Magpie Media, a company that specializes in producing creative content online.

When she’s not plotting social media marketing strategies, or researching next season’s hair trends for an upcoming blog post, Twyla is most likely drinking an almond milk cappuccino, cuddling with her delicious English bulldog, Birdie, or reading a biography on her favorite historic personality du jour. Twyla is a wannabe vegan, a Ballet Beautiful fanatic, a calligraphy novice, and beach lover. Twyla believes in cruelty-free beauty products, fur-less fashion spreads, and the proliferation of a healthy body image in the media.
